Author and curator Melanie Grant introduces new title The Jewelry Book, charting 200 years of fine and high jewellery design through the lens of creative freedom. Published by Phaidon, the book spotlights more than 300 designers, creative houses, artists, collectors, and style icons from around the world. Melanie will be joined by three esteemed jewellery designers who will share what ‘freedom’ means to them, and how it shapes their own work and practice.
Tickets are priced at £10 per person and include light refreshments.

About the speakers
Melanie Grant is a luxury expert, author, and curator based in London, whose specialist subject is the art and economics of jewellery. She has been a journalist for over 20 years having worked at The Times, The Financial Times, The Independent, The Guardian, The BBC, and The Economist. Melanie has become the authority on jewellery as art and commodity, writing articles and giving talks at institutions such as The V&A, The British Museum, PAD, NYC Jewelry Week, Masterpiece, Christies, and Sotheby’s. She wrote her first book Coveted on jewellery, art and economics, published by Phaidon in October 2020, and is editor of The Jewelry Book, a new title from Phaidon, published September 2025.

Tickets for “The Jewelry Book: 200 Years of Freedom in Design” are priced at £10 per person and are non-refundable.
Tickets must be booked in the name of the person who is attending - photo ID that matches the name on the booking will be required to gain entry.

Security & bag policy
Goldsmiths’ Hall operates Airport style enhanced security procedures for all public events - these include a bag scanner and a security arch. Suitcases and items larger than a laptop bag are not permitted inside the building. Our cloakroom, situated downstairs, can be used free of charge for coats, bags and umbrellas.
Disabled access to Goldsmiths’ Hall
The main entrance to Goldsmiths’ Hall is on Foster Lane and may not be suitable for visitors who require step-free access. Those who are require level access from street level should ring the bell on Carey Lane, for assistance and access by lift. If you have any concerns or questions about visiting the building, please email us.
The Exhibition Room is on the first floor, and can be accessed by lift from within the ground floor lobby.
