Working hours
Normal working hours are 7am to 4 pm or 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, working on a rota basis with one-hour unpaid lunch break. Due to the nature of the business and the delivery of events, the role will involve regular evening and weekend working on a rota basis.

Job Purpose
To work as part of the Facilities team to support the day-to-day maintenance, care and operation of Goldsmiths’ Hall, its associated buildings, gardens and accommodation. The role supports planned preventative and reactive maintenance of historic building fabric and building services, ensuring that the function rooms, office environments and residential accommodation are safe, functional and well presented. The Maintenance Assistant also contributes to the successful delivery of events, meetings and exhibitions by providing practical facilities and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
Building Maintenance and Operations
Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks in accordance with agreed schedules, instructions and safe working practices.
Undertake general maintenance and refurbishment work including cleaning, painting and decorating, basic carpentry, minor plumbing and minor electrical tasks (within level of competence).
Assist with the care, maintenance and protection of historic building fabric, fixtures and fittings, working with appropriate sensitivity and in line with conservation requirements.
Support statutory and compliance testing (including fire safety, emergency lighting, water hygiene and similar regimes), ensuring records are accurately maintained.
Monitor building condition and report defects, hazards or deterioration to the Maintenance Team Leader.
Manage waste disposal, recycling and sustainability initiatives in line with organisational policies.
Replenish consumables across offices, welfare areas and accommodation as required.
Events, Meetings and Office Support
Set up, prepare, clean and break down rooms for meetings, events, exhibitions and accommodation use.
Move, arrange and store furniture, staging, lighting, AV equipment, signage and décor safely and efficiently.
Provide facilities support during events, including stewarding, fire marshal duties, cloakroom assistance and general guest support as required.
Maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness and attention to detail across all spaces.
Logistics, Transport and Storage
Assist with the safe movement, storage and protection of equipment, furniture and furnishings.
Drive the company van for deliveries, collections and off-site support duties, subject to licensing requirements.
Receive, check and assist with deliveries and collections, ensuring items are correctly stored or distributed.
Health, Safety and Compliance
Work in compliance with Health & Safety legislation, risk assessments and organisational policies at all times.
Operate safely in relation to fire safety, legionella control, asbestos awareness and COSHH requirements.
Promote security, sustainability and equality, diversity and inclusion principles through daily activities and interactions.
Person Specification
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Experience of practical building maintenance, ideally in historic buildings.
Training or willingness to train in working at height, fire safety, first aid and security.
Collaborative team-player

Able to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
Strong communication (including active listening) and interpersonal skills.
