Exciting (re)developments at Goldsmiths’ Hall

This summer we began the redevelopment of three large spaces on the ground floor of Goldsmiths’ Hall which housed part of the London Assay Office from 1835 until 2020. The project opens up previously divided spaces, removes decades of contemporary fittings and fixtures, and restores or reinstates heritage features, to create a new permanent exhibition vault and two large multi-purpose spaces for meetings, events, and exhibitions.

We plan to open these new spaces – along with a new equal access entry way on Gresham Street – towards the end of next year, ahead of an exciting programme of events, exhibitions and experiences at the heart of our 700th anniversary celebrations in 2027.

To enable the heaviest of the works to take place, Goldsmiths’ Hall will be closed from Wednesday 24 December 2025 until May 2026, with our public events programme paused, and our members event programme relocated to a series of spectacular locations in the City and beyond!

While we are closed for a short period of time, there are a few important things to note:

  1. The London Assay Office, which is based at Goldsmiths’ Hall, will remain open and operational throughout the works

  2. We will honour our centuries old commitment to deliver the Trial and the Verdict of the Pyx, and for the first time in history will be working with the team at Mansion House to deliver both ceremonies in their spectacular building

  3. Goldsmiths’ Fair 2026 will run during the last week of September and the first week of October 2026 at Goldsmiths’ Hall

  4. Our Library & Archives team will continue to answer enquires by email, but will not be able to welcome visitors to the Library Reading Room from January to May 2026

  5. Our Public Programme, including tours of Goldsmiths’ Hall, will relaunch in June 2026. Please visit the What’s On page to see the schedule of planned events.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we undertake the largest renovation of Goldsmiths’ Hall in more than 30 years.

We look forward to welcoming you back into our building from Summer 2026.
