Britannia silver. Hand-raised and hand-chased bowl inlaid with fine gold, on forged stand. Gilt interior. Maker’s mark: Michael Lloyd, Edinburgh. Measurements: Bowl: Height 14.5 cm. Diameter 25.8 cm. Stand: Height 7 cm. Width 20 cm. Commissioned.

Commissioned to commemorate the year of office of Mr Martin Drury, a former Director-General of the National Trust, as Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company 2005-2006. This bowl’s design and imagery which evokes nature grew from a quote by Octavia Hill, one of the founders of the National Trust: ‘The need of quiet, the need of air, the need of exercise, the sight of the sky and of things growing, seem human needs common to all men’.
