Make Your Mark Awards- Applications Now Open

Applications are now open for the second Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office’s Make Your Mark Awards, which invites students and young designers to design a piece of jewellery or silverware that celebrates the London hallmark, the iconic Leopard’s Head.

The competition is open to current students, apprentices and recently graduated designers (within the last five years) of precious metal-related jewellery and silversmithing courses. There are two Award categories to enter: Jewellery and Silversmithing

The award objectives are:

  • To challenge today’s students working in precious metal both technically and artistically;
  • To educate today’s students on UK hallmarking and the legal requirements when selling their work;
  • To motivate jewellers, silversmiths and other design disciplines to explore new ground, and stretch their imagination of the use of the hallmark.

Last year’s Jewellery category winner was Roxanne Gilbert for her silver Five Facets ring. The ring features the full traditional hallmark over the five flattened surfaces of rounded clusters. Last years award for silversmithing was Annabel Hood for her beaker design, titled London’s Leopard. Highly commended designs came from Max Danger, Rebecca Doe and Adriana Klimentjevaite.

Prizes will be awarded to the most artistically convincing design, model or finished piece in which precious metal is used, and where a prominent London hallmark is part of the design. This year, entrants have the chance to win a hallmarking punch and hallmarking credit, an introductory course at Joanna Hardy’s online jewellery school (worth £250), or mentorship by Garrard and tour of their studio.

2016 winners left to right: Yanmi, Adriana, Max, Roxanne, Kate, Rebecca and Annabel
