The Goldsmiths' Company Review 2017
The Goldsmiths' Company Review for 2016-17 is now available to purchase, and includes an overview of the Company's activities over the past year as well as articles touching on the contemporary jewellery and silver trade.
The Review opens with a profile on the Company's current Prime Warden, Judith Cobham-Lowe. Her election as the Goldsmiths' Company's first female Prime Warden was an important moment for the Company, but for Judith it is a continuation of her trailblazing work in corporate strategy and leadership. On this momentous occasion in the Company's history, Sophia Tobin has penned an article on the role women have always played in the Company and in the craft.
Michael Wainwright looks back on his year as Prime Warden, 2015-2016, including the launch of the Business Growth Course at the Goldsmiths' Centre in June 2016. The course will help support participants who have the aspiration to grow their busineses within the trade.
There are profiles on many figures in the contemporary trade, including the winner of the Ambassador Diamond Necklace Competition, Daphne Krinos; Jo Hayes Ward, a pioneer in integrating new technology; and silversmith Mary Ann Simmons whose career in the trade spans 20 years.
Chair of Contemporary British Silversmiths, Rauni Higson, looks back at the year-long 'Silver Speaks' programme, conceived to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Contemporary British Silversmiths; and Janice Hosegood assesses the relationship between galleries and contemporary jewellery in the UK, and how these galleries suceed in the modern marketplace.
