Goldsmiths' Company Charity supports the Refugee Council
The Goldsmiths' Company Charity has been supporting the Refugee Council consistently since 1999. In recent years our support has focused on the ‘destitution services’ which provides emergency support to asylum seekers or those granted asylum who find themselves in desperate need.
This year it was decided to review our relationship with the Refugee Council and given the huge refugee crisis which is currently impacting the world, focus on a different but devastating area of need, their work under the umbrella of Children’s Services, particularly focusing on unaccompanied children.
The Refugee Council's Children’s Section works specifically with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, helping them to access education, training, healthcare and legal advice as well as providing much-needed emotional support.
In 2015 3,253 separated children claimed asylum in the UK, seeking safety from countries where the state has caused them harm or has been unable to protect them. The Refugee Council works to safeguard and improve the lives of separated children in England.

The Refugee Council
The Refugee Council works solely with refugees and people who are seeking asylum in the UK, including unaccompanied asylum seeking children. They provide advice and practical support, navigate asylum seekers through the complex asylum process, help integrate those individuals with refugee status, offer counselling to traumatised clients, and advocate on asylum seekers' behalf to make the system fairer and more humane.
