New addition to the Library

The Goldsmiths’ Company is delighted to announce a new addition to its Library holdings: a 17th century goldsmith’s ledger previously held in a private collection. It records the accounts of a (as yet unknown) retailing goldsmith who had a range of high-profile clients, including Baptist May, privy purse to King Charles II.

This exceptionally rare document will undergo conservation work before being made available to scholars, and promises to provide rare insights into the 17th century goldsmithing trade. We look forward to unlocking its secrets!
