The Goldsmiths' Company and The Goldsmiths' Company Charity 2018-2019
We were founded to provide excellence in training in our craft; to maintain standards of quality and good workmanship, primarily through hallmarking precious metals; and to contribute to charity and community.
Today, almost 700 years since we received our first Royal Charter (1327), our members and staff still have a clear and strong purpose: to contribute to national life by supporting our craft, trade and industry and through wider charitable and educational activity. This commitment is core to why we still exist today. It defines the Goldsmiths’ Company, our members, and how we work with all our partners.
Below you will find some key facts about how we have supported the trade and our charity partners as well as the full infographic which is available to download.
Investing in skills
We are committed to ensuring jewellers, silversmiths and their allied trades are thriving and contributing to the UK economy and society. This is primarily achieved through the Goldsmiths' Centre, the UK's leading charity for the professional training of goldsmiths, founded in 2012.
Inspire and engage
The Goldsmiths' Company Charity is a founding partner of the new Museum of London, which is due to open in 2024. The new museum will help create an innovative new experience that celebrates the capital, its great history, global connections and the role of the Goldsmiths' Company as we aim to inspire and engage with new audiences.
Collaborate and empower
For nearly 700 years, charity has been at the core of what we do. Today we are focused on continuing to be a progressive and influential funder, making connections, sharing best practice and collaborating with others, while raising awareness of their important work across society.
