Goldsmiths' Fair 2016
27 September, 2016 - 9 October, 2016
The premier showcase in the UK for contemporary designer jewellery and silver, Goldsmiths' Fair is a celebration of the best of British goldsmithing and silversmithing talent and a treasure trove of creativity, design innovation and superb craftsmanship.
Goldsmiths' Fair is the UK's premier destination to view and buy fine jewellery and contemporary silver. Held annually at iconic Goldsmiths' Hall, you can expect a brilliant line-up of emerging and established talent, special exhibitions, and engaging programme of design talks, and the prestigious Best New Design Awards.
This year we will welcome 150 exhibitors to the Fair, and we are delighted to host two very special exhibitions in the Hall, as well as our usual exciting programme of talks and events.
Silver: The Dark Side
Goldsmiths’ Fair is delighted to present this special exhibition at this year’s Fair, that will showcase silver in a dramatic new light.
This special display of new and recent work from some of the UK’s most exciting silversmiths and jewellers will feature striking pieces with black oxidised silver surfaces, plating and non precious metals that challenge traditional perceptions of silver.
Blackened objects, several of which combine precious and non-precious metal, are transformed into low-maintenance luxuries.
Erin O'Connor Selects
Since 2014, Goldsmiths’ Fair has featured an illustrious figure in the creative industries in the role of Guest Curator. Zaha Hadid was Guest Curator in 2014 and Julia Peyton-Jones in 2015. This year we are delighted to welcome supermodel Erin O’Connor to make her selection.
Erin O’Connor's grace, elegance and strong work ethic catapulted her to the top of the international modelling scene. Read more about Erin's selection process and see her highlights on the Goldsmiths' Fair website.
A Passion for Jewellery
Goldsmiths’ Fair is delighted to present Barbara Cartlidge and Electrum Gallery: A Passion for Jewellery, an exhibition of fine jewellery by pioneering Berlin-born British entrepreneur, designer-maker and co-founder of Electrum Gallery, Barbara Cartlidge.
The showcase, which coincides with the launch of Cartlidge’s biography of the same title, features 25 exquisite and boundary-pushing pieces of jewellery crafted in the 60s and 70s. This special display provides a glimpse into the renowned jeweller’s creative expression and distinguished career.
The authors of Barbara Cartlidge’s biography, Barbara Cartlidge and Electrum Gallery: A Passion for Jewellery, Dr Beatriz Chadour-Sampson and Janice Hosegood also be speaking about Electrum Gallery as part of the breakfast talks programme during the Fair.
A comprehensive talks programme runs throughout the Fair, including informative Breakfast Talks hosted by industry specialists. This year our speakers include renowned silversmith Richard Fox who will speak about his career designing trophies for Formula One, World Rally and NASCAR, and Asian Department Senior Curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Susan Stronge who will discuss the Bejwelled Treasures: The Al Thani Collection exhibition.
We also have a selection of free afternoon talks during the Fair, and for the first year, jewellery authority and curator Corinne Julius will lead small group tours around the Fair in both weeks one and two.
