The Goldsmiths’ Company Sponsored ‘Silversmithing and Metalwork Zone’
As a high profile event ‘New Designers’ provides an excellent platform to help increase awareness of the Goldsmiths’ Company’s continuous role as a technical and training resource for the industry in the UK, particularly as the Company is committed to encouraging recent graduates to take an active role in the development of our craft and industry.
The ‘New Designers’ event features Design Zones to highlight particular design disciplines. The Goldsmiths’ Company has for many years sponsored the ‘Silversmithing and Metalwork Zone’ in Part 1 of the event to support emerging jewellery and silversmithing talent. This zone has become a destination for industry professionals and trade members alike to seek out potential from the new cohort of graduates.
Award Criteria
The Goldsmiths’ Company New Designers Award: Jewellery
A cash prize of £1,000, a precious metal voucher of £500 and a place on the annual ‘Getting Started’ graduate business course in 2010 will be awarded for a jewellery piece or collection in precious metals that demonstrates excellence in craft skills and technical ability. Special consideration will be given to work that shows originality in design, use of traditional and/or new technologies with potential for commercial development.
Additionally the winner will be given:
10 years of free registration at Assay Office London
A complimentary sponsors’ punch, or a second punch if already registered
A £200 credit towards your hallmarking account at Assay Office London
A guided tour of Assay Office London and introduction to its services
