Andrew Wood,
former apprentice and winner of the UK Skills Competition
2003.
The Goldsmiths' Company has
supported 'indentured' or contracted apprenticeships between
its Freemen and young people entering the industry as trainees
since 1334.
Our apprenticeships focus on the development of craft and technical
skills appropriate to the modern industry. These are gained
over a three to five year period of training with a Master
and their company, which we support financially. It is also expected that new apprentices will register for a
City & Guilds Licentiateship - The Goldsmiths' Award, a new qualification unique to the Company scheme .
On completing his or her training, the Apprentice
gains the 'Freedom of the Company by Servitude', producing his
or her Masterpiece, which is inspected by the Prime Warden of
The Goldsmiths' Company at a 'Freedom Ceremony'.
Apprenticeships are usually applied for by the Master
or the company after a suitable candidate has been identified.
If you are a Freeman of the Goldsmiths’
Company, based in London or the South East of England and are
interested in taking on an Apprenticeclick
here. Alternatively please contact
the department to discuss your requirements. Occasionally
however we are approached by companies seeking potential Apprentices.
Therefore if you are 16 to 21 years of age, live in London or
the South-East of England, and would like to register an interest
in becoming an Apprentice please click
here.
