Gold: Power and Allure (1)
01 June 2012
Part of the pavement and the steps up into Goldsmiths' Hall were effectively covered with gold leaf to welcome the Mayoral party. Accompanied by the Lady Mayoress and the Duty Sheriff Miss Wendy Mead and her consort Mr Robert Tipping, the Lord Mayor assisted by the Prime Warden, Lord Sutherland cut a gold ribbon and declared the exhibition "Gold: Power and Allure" officially open.
The Lord Mayor was then introduced to Paul Dyson, Director of Promotion, who in turn presented him to contemporary goldsmiths Dr Kevin Coates and Disa Allsopp whose gold work is featured in the exhibition. He also met David Lamb, Managing Director, Jewellery and Marketing of the World Gold Council, who was flanked by two models wearing stunning gold jewellery by Wright & Teague and Polly Gasston, specially commissioned by the World Gold Council for the exhibition. The World Gold Council is the sponsor of the "Gold: Power and Allure".
In addition the Lord Mayor met members of the Promotions Team before Dr Helen Clifford, the curator, guided him and his party around the exhibition. Before leaving the Mayor had a few words with Sheila Teague, Gary Wright and Polly Gasston.
The exhibition is now open until July 28 and entrance is free. Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm (closed Sundays (except Sunday June 24) and Bank Holidays).
