Fascinated by the American designer, architect and visionary Richard Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983) and his giant Geodesic Dome for the Montreal World Expo in 1967, Tom developed his intricate laser-welding technique called 'GEO.2' over the last 13 years to its present high standard. He set up the well-known course, 'Creative Laser Welding Techniques' for the University of Central England and was the first in the UK introducing this state of the art technology to the jewellery trade.
Tom works mainly in an exclusive on the market platinum 950 alloy and 18ct Yellow Gold combined with rare coloured precious stones, diamonds and pearls.
For his unique designs and innovative ideas, Tom has received many awards over the last few years including 11 awards from the International Pearl Design Contest in Tokyo, the Prix Arctica, Finland, the German Benvenuto Cellini Gold Medal for the highest possible standard in design and manufacturing, a honour of the Japanese government for an outstanding use of Akoya pearls in modern jewellery design, a technical 'Goldsmiths' Craft & Design Council Award' and most recently the 'DIA - Design Innovation Award' London.
