My inspiration comes from childhood memories fused with later interests such as architecture, furniture and industrial design. As a child, I made numerous drawings of animals and read books on them and also watched TV programmes with monsters, superheroes and spaceships. What interests me is expressive forms, whether it is in nature, art or design, and basic mechanisms and kinetic work. I like to have function in my work other than being worn. I often use rivets to set stones and beads, and pegs to make articulated pieces. I also like my work to have playfulness. Some of my pieces are boxes as well as jewellery, or toys as well as jewellery. When not worn, they can be seen as sculpture/objects, and can be played with. I find jewellery and poetry have a similar essence. They are both small and concentrated, so that can be carried with you mentally and physically. They are full of metaphor and very personal.
