About this designer / maker

“I collect, draw and photograph natural forms which prompt me to think about construction, shape and texture in different metals. A personal relationship with nature is central to my life and work”. Laura Baxter makes silver and gold jewellery inspired by botanical forms. Seedpods, buds, twigs and the internal structures of flowers are abstracted and magnified in different scales. The work is concerned with extracting and arranging individual elements of nature into three-dimensional compositions to capture a narrative within a frame. Designs reflect how plants change and grow throughout the seasons. Many pieces incorporate sound or moving elements. The intention of the work is to create wearable elements of nature. Collections include earrings, rings, pins, brooches, pendants, necklaces and torques and perfume bottles. Work is constructed using shaping, die-pressing, piercing and forging techniques. Surface texture and finishes are applied using roll-printing, punches and oxidising. Pieces are made to commission or as batch production ranges.
