About this designer / maker

Biography

The company was set up by David Mellor CBE, Royal Designer for Industry.  Mellor set up his first silversmithing workshop in Sheffield in 1954 and rapidly established himself as one of the leading metalworkers of his generation.  His world famous silver cutlery is now made at our own purpose-built factory, The Round Building, at Hathersage, designed by Sir Michael Hopkins.  Now under the stewardship of his son, versatile product designer Corin Mellor, the company’s award-winning silver cutlery and other silver pieces continue to be handmade by our team of specialist craftsmen, most of whom have been trained by and have worked with David Mellor for many years.  We continue to undertake special silver commissions and have an international reputation for excellence in the field with our commissions being included in many public and private collections world wide.  The expertise we have developed over the decades ensures we always utilise the perfect combination of traditional craft techniques with the very latest in computer-aided design.
