This new course will look at the mathematics behind activities as diverse as cryptography, drug testing, internet applications and the study of chaos. Course activities will include a mix of lectures and hands-on workshop sessions, with an introduction to mathematical computation using the Maple package. A visit to the National Codes Centre at Bletchley Park will take place mid week. Though aimed primarily at those teaching advanced level mathematics, this course will be of interest to teachers of all science-related subjects who have studied mathematics to A-level standard.
