Curator

The Curator is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and an Honorary Brother of the Art Workers Guild.  The Curator has acted as honorary advisor to such organisations as the Silver Trust for No. 10 Downing Street, the British Art Medal Society, Lichfield Cathedral and York Minster, Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. The Curator has been an expert advisor for silver for the Export Reviewing Committee, H.M. Government and is currently on the silver vetting committee for the Fine Art & Antiques Fair, Olympia.

The Curator’s lecture highlights include Bicentennial lecture for the ‘Treasures of London’ touring exhibition U.S.A., ‘Denny Memorial Lecture’ at the Museum of London, ‘Modern Silver’ at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and ‘A Focus on Contemporary Studio Silver’ for the Crafts Council at Collect. The Curator’s catalogue highlights include ‘Matthew Boulton and the Toymakers’, ‘Lichfield Cathedral Silver Commission’, ‘Treasures of the Twentieth Century’, ‘Modern Designer Jewellery 1960-2000- Jewellery from Goldsmiths’ Hall’, ‘Treasures of Today’ Modern Silver 1980- Present  Day.

The Curator acts as honorary advisor to patrons of contemporary silver, jewellery and art medals. In the role of directing and curating touring exhibitions for the Company the Curator can advise those undertaking similar exhibitions with respect to venues, exhibition design, exhibition equipment, graphics, photographers, catalogues etc.

The Curator and the curatorial department have extensive experience with the trades of silver and jewellery and can offer advice on contacts in these fields, for example engravers, gilders, enamellers, jewellers, cutlery manufacturers etc.

Silver Steward

Trained as a jeweller at Medway College under Norman Bassant, Ian Calvert and Robert May.  Worked in Hatton Garden as a diamond mounter before joining the Goldsmiths’ Company as Silver Steward, responsible for the full care of the Collections. 

The Silver Steward can advise on cleaning, restoration and repair. As an honorary advisor, the Silver Steward has advised on silver in cathedrals, silver belonging to the Armed Forces and corporate bodies, silver in Buckingham Palace and silver belonging to private individuals.
