Modern Collections

Four piece tea set, 1963 by Robert WelchLoans from the Modern Collections of silver, jewellery and art medals have raised the profile nationally of these different disciplines and their makers.  Past loans have included, Vase, 1999, by Michael Rowe to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery for the Michael Rowe exhibition; 5 pieces by Brian Asquith to the ‘Sculpted by Design’ exhibition of his work to Millennium Galleries, Sheffield; work by eight modern silversmiths to Fairfax House, York; Court cup, 1990, by Kevin Coates, to the Wallace Collection; jewellery by Desmond Clen-Murphy to ‘Art at the Rockface’ at Norwich Castle Museum; bracelet, 1999, by Charlotte de Syllas to the Dovecot Building, Edinburgh for her solo exhibition;  Brooch, c.2001 by Jacqueline Ryan for the exhibition ‘Beauty in Repetition’ to Blackwell,  Bowness-on-Windermere.

Antique Collection

Cup, 1493Loans from the Antique Collection have been made to major exhibitions and institutions. Past loans have included,  Cup, 1493 and the Cressener Cup, 1503, ‘Late Gothic Art in England, 1400-1457 exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum; Rosewater dish, 1933, by Harold Stabler, tea urn, 1760, by Samuel Courtauld, tea caddy, 1747, by Paul de Lamerie to the ‘Chinoiserie in Britain’ exhibition at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
