Sustainable Energy

Sunday 21 July to Friday 26 July 2013

University of Bath

Based in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Bath, this course will provide teachers with an insight into the science behind the issues of energy and the environment and current scientific approaches to solving these problems.  The course will be delivered by leading academics researching in these areas and draws on interdisciplinary expertise from the Department's Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies and the University's Institute of Sustainable Energy and the Environment.

These themes are directly relevant to the environmental and science and society contexts in the GCSE and A level science syllabi.  Teachers should expect to return to school with new activities based on cutting edge research which can be used in the classroom and a greater confidence when discussing these issues with their students.  The programme also includes industrial visits and hands-on laboratory work.  Most evenings during the residential course there will be a 'Café Scientifique' event where there will be time to quiz leading researchers in the relaxed atmosphere of a Café.
