Charity Guidelines
Grants are made to London and national charities with a turnover of less than £10million. Where charities are members, branches or affiliates of an association, appeals are normally accepted from the governing body or head office only. In the case of church restoration, block grants are made to the National Churches Trust and therefore appeals from individual churches will not normally be considered. Similarly a block grant is made to Children’s Hospices UK, and therefore appeals from individual hospices will not normally be considered.
- The Goldsmiths’ Company Charity’s normal policy is to give small grants: the average grant last year was approximately £3,000. Recurring grants are not normally given, however where grants are payable in stages over a period of more than one year, then each payment will be considered on its own merit and payment cannot be assumed for subsequent years.
Requests for financial assistance by individuals are only considered if they are members of the Goldsmiths’ Company. The Charity, however, does make grants to other Trusts who administer grants to individuals on our behalf.
- Appeals for specific projects are preferred, but requests for core funding will be considered. For examples of Charities and projects supported please see ‘Case Studies’.
Applications are not normally considered on behalf of
- Medical research
- Animal welfare
- Memorials to individuals
- Overseas projects
- Individual housing associations
- Endowment schemes
- Individual churches
- Individual hospices
Applications from any organisation, whether successful or not, are not considered more frequently than once every three years.
