The Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office owes its expertise and professionalism to its staff, many of whom have been with the company for over 30 years.

Robert Organ

Robert joined the Assay Office London in 2000 as Superintendent Assayer and took over as Deputy Warden (Managing Director) in 2006. A professional member of the Institute of Metal Finishing and a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, Robert is also Secretariat to the International Association of Assay Offices (IAAO) and Chairman of the British Standards Institute STI 53 Committee for Specifications and test methods for jewellery and horology.

John Love

Superintendent Assayer

John started out at the Assay Office as an apprentice 35 years ago. He has since worked his way up through the ranks with roles such as Head of the Gold Department and Deputy Superintendent Assayer, allowing him to gain an unprecedented understanding of the business and the opportunity to build strong relationships with customers. As Superintendent Assayer, John is second in command and responsible for the day-to-day running of the Assay Office and its two sub-offices.

Ian Raymond

Deputy Superintendent

Ian joined the Assay Office in 1979. His key responsibilities are to manage all areas concerned with the hallmarking operation, including the production floor and laboratory services. He also oversees the engineering department, which deals with tool-making and punch-making requirements of the Assay Office. Part of his role also covers all aspects of Quality Control in maintaining the Office’s accreditation to ISO 17025 for its laboratory services and ISO 9001: 2008 certification for its Quality Management Systems.

Steve Collins

Sales and Business Development Manager

Steve has been in the jewellery trade since leaving school over 25 years ago, and has had many roles including sales director, antique and modern jewellery and diamond buyer, and jewellery production manager. As a qualified gemmologist and former registered valuer, Steve is responsible for visiting customers across the country and also plays a key role at many Assay Office seminars and events. Steve also sits on the board of directors of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.

Kevin Bowles

Heathrow Sub-Office Manager

Kevin started his apprenticeship at the Assay Office in 1979. Since then, he has built up a wealth of knowledge across the entire assaying and hallmarking process. Kevin is now in charge of the Heathrow Sub-office, where he and his team provide an unparalleled service to some of the biggest jewellery importers in the country.

Andy Waker

Manager, Greville Street Sub-Office

Andy is another long-standing member of staff who started out as an apprentice, back in 1977. As part of his apprenticeship he studied City & Guilds Silversmithing and Design at Sir John Cass. Andy helped with the introduction of laser marking at London and also the Student Hallmarking Package. Today, Andy is in charge of the Greville Street Sub-office, London’s first satellite office, designed and located for the Hatton Garden Community.
